Cyborg(Cybernetic Organism): Part human, part machine

Posted by Ankush Acharya on September 24, 07

Meet Mr.Kevin Warwick , the first HUMAN CYBORG. Being a Professor of Cybernetics at the University of Reading, England, he carries out research in artificial intelligence, control, robotics and biomedical engineering.

What makes him unique is that: He has been fitted with cyborg technology, enabling his nervous system to be linked to a computer. Surgeons have fitted a small silicon chip into his left wrist and its electrodes are connected to the median nerve. Connecting wires are implanted under the skin of the forearm and are fed to the computer through a small puncture on the wrist. The wires are linked to a transmitter/receiver device to relay nerve messages to a computer by radio signal. These signals, encoding movements like movement of fingers and feelings like shock and pain, will be transmitted to a computer and recorded for the first time.

Potter mania grips the world again !!

Posted by Ankush Acharya on July 22, 07

With the release of the seventh and the last book HARRY POTTER and the DEATHLY HALLOWS of the “Harry Potter” series the world is again gripped with the ‘P’ (Potter) fever……The much awaited book was released on July 21, 2007 worldwide…..and no doubt there were more than expected copies sold on the very first day.

Being rumored that this book will bring in the death of Harry Potter (which is absolutely wrong !!)……made the book more demanding among the Potter fans..!!

hp7adult_low_complete.jpg

In India too the sales of the book scaled new heights. Just 12 hours after the seventh book of the Harry Potter series was released Saturday, it sold 170,000 copies in the country. The estimated number of copies sold on the first day was close to 200,000. Even then, in places like Orissa, scores of Potter fans returned home empty handed and disappointed as copies of the book was sold out within the first few hours of its release.

What’s next..?? No doubt, the story will be soon hitting the theaters.

Hat’s off to J.K. Rowling !!!

A Trip to Pachmarhi……(without a camera !!)

Posted by Ankush Acharya on July 21, 07

It was a sudden decision to visit Pachmarhi………

the next morning we were in the bus !!

The trio being: Abhishek, Aditya and Ankush (three super genius minds…..)

Next morning we were in Pachmarhi…..

We reached Pachmarhi at 7:00AM approx…. as soon as we set our foot on the ground our instinct alarmed us to set in search for a room in a hotel……luckily we found quite a good “Hotel Arihant” nearby…..booked a room and rushed in.

DAY 1…..The tour begins:

10:30AM Decided to rome around on foot….

12:30PM Were standing at the same place and deciding…….(no one knows what??). Finally, the super cool dudes hired a gypsy and set forth to visit pachmarhi………

Pachmarhi: Pachmarhi, Madhya Pradesh’s solitary hill station, is nestled amid the central Satpura ranges at an altitude of 1065m above sea level. A not-so-popular tourist spot, Pachmarhi is the place to head for if peace and quiet are what you seek.

At around 4:00 pm we had our lunch…..by this time we had been to……

Pandava Caves : Five ancient dwellings excavated in the sandstone rock in a low hill. Pachmarhi derives its name from these caves which, as the legend goes, once provided sanctuary to the five Pandav brothers. These caves are now protected monuments.

Apsara Vihar: By the side of the Pandava Caves a road leads to this spot which is accessible only on foot. The pool is formed by a little fall which is nearly 30ft high. The locals say shooting of a scene for the movie “Asoka” was done beside this pool.

Bee Fall: A spectacular fall in the stream which provides drinking water to Pachmarhi. We spent most of our quality time enjoying in the splashing water out here..!!

At around 5:00PM we moved ahead towards the highest point in the central India region and the Vindhya and Satpura range…… at 3500 feet above sea level….Dhupgarh !! Now this was the sunset point….so everybody who were on a visit to Pachmarhi the same day were present there……..including us !!

At around 6:45 PM everyone flipped open there mobile phones or cameras and gazed at the setting sun…..that was the last visit point.

Back to hotel the journey was pleasant as the Satpura Ranges could be seen in the dusk….the wind was chilling………and the trio in the gypsy were thinking that their classmates are missing this….. !!!

DAY 2 (No Gypsy….!! )

8:00AM Set out to visit Jatashankar cave : A sacred cave under a mass of loose boulders in which the Jambu Dwip stream has its source. A rocky formation of this place resembles the matted locks of Lord Shiva, hence the name.

10:00AM Back to the “metalled road” as indicated in the Pachmarhi guide map….we started for Handi kho……but we finished in search of some rock paintings……visited a place were no one except three of us could be seen…….came back and were happy after having two glasses of “nimbu-paani ” each !!! Time now 3:00PM

Truly speaking from 10:00AM to 3:00PM we were on a NatGeo hunt…….I guess Abhishek and Aditya agrees !!!!

Finally boarded bus at around 7:30PM and said “adieu” to Pachmarhi…….

The 3 men with their super sense of humor were coming back to their “Karm-bhoomi” Indore !!!!

“perCushion” PillowPhone

Posted by Ankush Acharya on April 19, 07

PillowPhone

Alright, this thing isn’t technically a phone — it’s just a Bluetooth handsfree….!!

The PillowPhone makes it even easier than usual to nod off while chatting with boring peeps thanks to an integrated loudspeaker and a rather comfy-looking design.

Power is provided by a rechargeable battery so you don’t have any unsightly wires following the accessory into bed with you.

Maybe designer Urban Tool puts it best when it says that the perCushion takes us back to a time when “communication with a close friend stood for something emotional and touching” — and sleepy, Urban Tool. Don’t forget that part.

Look for the “perCushion” to make the courageous leap from concept to production in 2008.
